Hello and welcome from China,
You will find lots of guitar teachers via Google. Most of them teach in a music school. Some also teach privately. Be prepared to pay between 25 and 50 euros per hour, depending on the school and the teacher. Another idea is to put up a notice on the notice board of the Amsterdam Conservatorium of Music (see Google). There are also lots of good websites, where you can download free (and legal) versions of chord music for rock and pop. One of the best is OLGA (OnLine Guitar Archive). Good luck and maybe we meet up some time. Very best regards, Keith |

Did you find a teacher? I am also learning to play guitar. I am a complete beginner and so far all I have learned is that it hurts my fingers! |

Try to use nylon guitar, it's less hurt for fingers compared to string guitar.

Try to use nylon guitar, it's less hurt for fingers compared to string guitar. Thank you so much for replying. Unfortunately, I was persuaded to buy an electric guitar (as it was easier!!) so no nylon strings. I am told once I get callouses on my fingers it will hurt less!!! I have reached the dizzy heights of playing "Greensleeves" but frankly if I did not know I was playing that it could equally sound like "Air on a G string" or indeed the Icelandic national anthem (if you don't know how that anthem sounds then you have a flavour for my guitar playing!) Do you play/teach? I am still not beyond the stage of learning how to tune the damn thing. I am not looking to be Mark Knoppler anytime soon but Joe Strummer would be cool! Very cool. Molly |

To Molly,
Check this page. It will show you how to tune your guitar in an easy way. http://www.fretjam.co... Unless you also have a keyboard :p, that is much easier... Success Ab |

Molly,
since you have an electric guitar I recommend the following steps to learn: 1. Learn basic chords 2. Learn scales 3. Once you have the basics, there are many guitar magazines you can buy in the regular book store with various techniques & progressions 4. Think of a song you like and find the tabs online. This site ain't bad: http://www.ultimate-g... I'm no pro but been playing a while and trying to improve myself. One more thing, I read that eveyone who wants to learn seriously should buy a metronome, but I personally dont have one. Edited by Matt on Oct 7, 2009 4:43 PM |

@ Molly,
looks like you got a lot of good advices here, good luck with the lesson :) If you feel like testing the fruit of your practice, maybe you want to meet and have a little session somewhere someday. I know some people whom I think have studio sessions whom we could just go. I am no Jimmi Page, but I would love to appreciate arts through my tacky talent with musical instruments. Jati |

To Molly, ^^This. I use the same technique and also use this http://www.howtotunea... Use the "Tune-o-matic" thingy on the right, it helps! |
